Frequently asked questions.

When are the work sessions?

We work Wednesdays 4-5:30 and Saturdays 10-12 in winter; in spring, hours change to capture the best timing for the season. You can join in for any portion of the work session! Please come for however long.

Is there a cost to join or participate?

We have no dues or fees; we seek donations through fundraising for our operating budget! Please donate if you can — contact us at saxpatch@gmail.com or talk with us at any work session to find out how!

How can I share in the harvest?

Gardeners harvest at the close of each work session; please bring a sack and take what you need at any session (Wednesday and Saturday)!

Do I need experience or tools to participate?

No! Please come as you are; if you have usable tools in good condition to use or donate, we are very happy to have those resources available — but we have guides at each session and plenty of tools for the tasks on our lists.

What if it’s raining?

Please check local weather; if it is not actively raining, we will garden! We don’t mind cold and heat — please dress for the weather and bring a water bottle!

What is your mission?

We are interested in a space where area residents can join together in community to educate our community, produce and harvest food, and donate to our local food pantry, SAFE, to address food insecurity.

What is your gardening philosophy?

We use an organic approach with a range of methods for soil preparation, weed prevention, fertilization, composting, and yield. We purchase seedlings from local farmers and source compost and mulch from responsible locations — including our own composting operation!
